The object that entered Poland’s airspace last year and was found in April was a Russian-made missile, says an adviser to Polish President Andrzej Duda.
The Associated Press reports that Pawel Szrot told Radio RMF FM on Friday that the tip of the rocket had been found and that it was “strange” because it was made of concrete. It has been examined by experts.
Szrot said it was “Russian technology” and that the material was most likely meant to add weight to the tip and allow the projectile to confuse Ukraine’s air defense systems in an attempt to repel Russian attacks.
The tip of the rocket did not contain explosives, Szrot said.
The object crashed on Polish territory in December and its parts were found by a civilian in the forest near the city of Bydgoszcz in April.
The issue of air security as war rages in neighboring Ukraine has become particularly sensitive in Poland after two Poles were killed when a missile landed in eastern Poland in November.
