Geeta Godara, 60, and her 13-year-old granddaughter Aashka recently won medals at an international karate competition in Dubai.
Godara, who lives in the Indian state of Haryana, started practicing martial arts just two years ago. She claims that she was inspired even by her niece, whom she used to accompany to karate classes. The woman also revealed that she wanted a military career from her youth, but she didn’t get it.
“Now I feel that my childhood dream has come true,” said the woman.
Encouraged by coach Sunil Saini, Geeta Godara accepted the challenge and learned quickly.
Aashka says she felt embarrassed when her grandmother started taking karate classes. Now the teenager feels proud of her grandmother.
The two karatekas dream of representing India at the Olympics.
