We reiterate the fact that education is a national priority for the parties in the current governing coalition”, it is mentioned at the end of the communiqué.
General strike in schools
Education union leaders announced after Sunday afternoon’s negotiations that a general strike will begin on Monday, when 150,000 teachers will be on strike.
The leaders of the education unions stated that the Executive came “with the same offer as in the last days”.
More than 150,000 teachers and 50,000 – 60,000 non-teaching and auxiliary staff start a general strike on Monday, but the trade unionists say they are “open to negotiations”.
Union leaders said bonuses for new teachers and those from underprivileged areas were mentioned in the negotiations, without establishing a clear timetable.
The unions say that the duration of the strike will depend on the response the Government will give and until those who joined its initiation will give up.
They advise parents to keep their children at home on Monday, even if schools will not close.
The government announced, after negotiations, that the Ministry of Labor must come up with the draft for the new wage law by July 15, and the approval would take place only after September 1.
