A man was arrested and a Nazi flag was confiscated after a truck plowed through security barriers near the White House, according to Sky News.
The driver was arrested by the police, and a law enforcement official told NBC News that the man made threatening statements to the White House. The police also discovered and confiscated a Nazi flag.
“I don’t think there’s any place for a Nazi flag or the statements he made,” the US official said.
A preliminary investigation showed that the driver “may have intentionally hit the security barriers in Lafayette Square” in Washington, DC, said Anthony Guglielmia, a spokesman for the US Secret Service.
There were no injuries among Secret Service or White House personnel, the spokesman added.
A remote-controlled robot opened the rear doors of the truck, but no hazardous materials were found inside. During the intervention, a nearby hotel was evacuated at the request of the agents.
