“On May 23, 2023, the Air Control Command in the Baltic Sea area detected two air targets approaching the state border of the Russian Federation. A Sukhoi Su-27 fighter plane belonging to the Baltic Fleet Air Force was dispatched.
The crew of the Russian plane identified the aircraft as two B-1B strategic bombers belonging to the US Air Force. Violation of the state border of Russia was not allowed. The fighter jet returned to base after the bombers changed direction and moved away,” the Russian Ministry of Defense said, quoted by Le Monde newspaper.
The air incident occurred against the backdrop of extreme tensions between Russia and NATO due to the Russian military invasion of Ukraine.
