Klaus Iohannis told Frank Walter-Steinmeier that he hopes that, after Bucharest, the visit to Sibiu, like the one to Timisoara, where he will go on Friday, will give him a more complete picture of Romania today.
“You have visited Romania over the years and I think you already have an idea of the transformations that have taken place in the years since we met. As a former mayor of this beautiful city, I follow, of course, with great interest the developments in Sibiu, which are really, Madam Mayor, spectacular. Sibiu was and remains a model for the harmonious coexistence of different ethnicities. Also, Sibiu is a city where many German investors have chosen to come and create future businesses that will bring jobs. The quality of German investments is highly appreciated in Romania and I hope that these investments will continue to expand in the coming period, not only here, but throughout the country. I would also like to emphasize the importance given to cooperation for the development of professional training in the dual system, a field in which German companies in Romania play a pioneering role. They offer a valuable model for our entire education system and, respectively, for the economic system, so that we can train young people as competent as possible and with the ability to adapt to the challenges of the economy of the future”, said Klaus Iohannis.
Astrid Cora Fodor, the mayor of Sibiu, was also present at the talks between the two heads of state.
In his speech, Iohannis emphasized the Romanian-German friendship, with an old tradition, which has now reached an “unprecedented” point of development.
“We have consistent bilateral and European political cooperation and, above all, we have strong interpersonal ties, which are due to the people, especially the Romanian community in Germany and the German minority in Romania. It is the basis on which we build together a united Europe, which will ensure a prosperous future in the face of numerous global challenges. I thank you all, I wish you health, only good and prosperity to the city of Sibiu and to all those who have decided to live in Sibiu!”, said Klaus Iohannis.
