The European Union asked China on Thursday to insist that Russia immediately withdraw its troops from the territory of Ukraine, in the context of Beijing’s diplomatic efforts to stop the military conflict that broke out through the Russian military invasion.
The Chinese envoy Li Hui was in Brussels on Thursday, where he met with Enrique Mora, Secretary General for Political Affairs within the European External Action Service (EEAS). On Friday, the Chinese emissary will travel to Moscow.
“The discussions referred to Russia’s war of aggression against Ukraine and the ways to promote a fair and lasting peace. Ukraine exercises its legitimate right to defense, and the European Union is determined to support Ukraine in the long term,” the European Service announces of Foreign Action, according to the daily newspaper Le Monde.
“The European Union expects the Chinese nation, a permanent member of the UN Security Council, to make efforts for the immediate and unconditional withdrawal of all Russian forces and military equipment from the entire territory of Ukraine. The two sides agreed to maintain contacts and work in favor of a lasting peace in Ukraine”, emphasized the European External Action Service.
