The fighters of the Wagner Group initiated the surrender of control of the Russian army troops over the occupied areas in the Ukrainian city of Bahmut, announced the director of the Russian paramilitary company, Evgheni Prigojin.
“We are about to withdraw our units from Bahmut. By June 1, most of our combatants will arrive at the bases behind the front,” said Evgheni Prigojin, according to the daily Le Monde, stating that the Russian army will take control.
Hanna Maliar, Deputy Minister of Defense of Ukraine, confirmed that the Wagner Group has relinquished control of the city of Bahmut to the Russian army.
Kyiv maintains that it still has control over the Avion district of Bahmut, located on the southwestern outskirts of the city.
Moreover, Mihailo Podoliak, the head of the Presidential Chancellery in Kyiv, declared on Thursday that the Ukrainian military forces have already started the counter-offensive in eastern Ukraine. “The counter-offensive is already underway, for several days. It is an intense war, on a border of 1,500 kilometers. Our actions have already begun,” said Podoliak, quoted by the Tagesschau.de website.
