The German government has responded favorably to the request of the North Atlantic Alliance and will provide a Patriot anti-aircraft and anti-ballistic system to protect the NATO summit scheduled for July in Vilnius, Lithuania.
“I am glad that we will have an important contribution within NATO on the occasion of the summit in Vilnius”, said the German Minister of Defense, Boris Pistorius, on Friday evening, according to the website Tagesschau.de.
Germany will send an American-made Patriot anti-aircraft and anti-ballistic system to Lithuania. The German-owned system is currently in Slovakia and will be temporarily transferred to Lithuania.
“At the request of the North Atlantic Alliance, Germany will make a significant contribution to the protection of the NATO summit that will take place in July 2023 in the Lithuanian city of Vilnius. Through close consultations with our partner Lithuania, NATO and our partners will be protected on land, air and maritime. For this purpose, equipment will be transferred that is either currently on NATO’s eastern flank or in Germany,” the Ministry of Defense in Berlin said.
