A Palestinian militant was shot dead Friday while trying to carry out an attack in a Jewish settlement in the southern West Bank, the Israeli army announced, according to Ynetnews.com and The Times of Israel.
The Palestinian militant entered the Teneh Omarim colony and tried to commit a knife attack in a synagogue. He was shot dead by a security guard.
No other people were injured. Following the incident, the Israeli army carried out security raids in the nearby Palestinian city of Hebron.
The incident comes amid Israeli-Palestinian tensions, which have increased over the past year. At least 19 people were killed this year in anti-Israeli attacks. In the West Bank, at least 113 Palestinians were killed during Israeli operations or while attempting to carry out anti-Israeli attacks.
