The German authorities have initiated a large-scale investigation into the circumstances of a security incident that targeted Chancellor Olaf Scholz, the German press informs.
Bild magazine revealed on Friday that the security incident took place at Frankfurt Airport. On Wednesday evening, an individual infiltrated the convoy carrying Chancellor Olaf Scholz with his own car, entered the airport premises, got out of the car and hugged Chancellor Scholz, before the security agents intervened.
The German government and the Office of the Police for Combating Crime (BKA) confirmed on Friday the occurrence of a “security incident” in Frankfurt, according to the website Hessenschau.de.
No one was injured. “The said person was detained without resisting in the premises of the Frankfurt Airport”, the German Police said. Scholz was at Frankfurt Airport after attending a European Central Bank (ECB) ceremony.
The German authorities will review the security protocol and try to find out the reason why the individual resorted to this gesture.
