New road signs for 2024: Discover the new ones and modifications to the existing ones – Garáž.cz

Are you already looking forward to 2024? Take a look at our complete overview of what awaits us next year and how the Czech traffic police is also preparing for changes. In any case, such a speed of 150 km/h on selected sections of highways or driving with a mentor from the age of 17 are not the only novelties, as a decree changing the rules of road traffic is also currently undergoing interdepartmental comment proceedings.

Specifically, this proposal, which is most likely to come into effect on January 1, 2024, focuses on traffic signs. Brand new ones will be put into operation, and selected existing ones will have their appearance or meaning modified.

If everything goes as it should, from January 2024 we will see some new traffic signs that have not yet appeared in the decree. So it will be completely new items.

The sign with the code designation IZ 10a indicates an area where, in addition to general road traffic rules, special rules for traffic in a shared zone apply. The sign IZ 10b, on the other hand, reports the end of this shared zone, while this sign can only be placed on the left side of the road from the opposite side of the Shared Zone sign when exiting the shared zone.

The concept of a shared zone (sometimes also a meeting zone) is intended to help better solve the traffic situation in city centers with mixed traffic of cars, public transport, cyclists and pedestrians. For passenger cars, the maximum speed should be 25 km/h.

The IP 13f sign named Parkoviště P+D indicates a parking lot that is intended for parking vehicles whose driver immediately continues to drive from there as a passenger in another vehicle as part of carpooling.

The full meaning of the blue traffic sign IL 15 is: Service point for sanitizing the sanitary facilities of residential vehicles. It follows that this sign indicates a service point for the sanitation of sanitary facilities (discharge of gray water, cleaning of chemical toilets, etc.) of motor homes and caravans. In addition, a new symbol (pictured right) with registration number 407 is added to this brand.

Since selected electric scooters will have to have a valid compulsory insurance from next year, the legislation also thought about their operation. Under the new symbol number 229, there is a pictogram denoting electric scooters, which in the future you will find on signs, for example in places where they can be charged, where entry is prohibited, etc.

Field social service workers, whose vehicles will be able to be marked with this depicted symbol, whose item number is O 5c, will also receive a special designation enshrined in the law.

Furthermore, for selected brands and symbols that are already in use, their visual appearance, possibly meaning and use in practice are changing.

The IP 32 mark, also known as Safe Distance, has seen the most changes. It looks a little different (there’s an extra car) and the decree shows a modified wording of the meaning:

The sign in conjunction with the relevant horizontal traffic sign Safe distance informs about the safe distance between moving vehicles. By modifying the meaning and practical use of the E 13 mark, the supplementary tables are mainly addressed. The meaning of the road sign under which the supplementary table is placed is specified or limited by a suitable inscription or symbol on the supplementary table.

If the text with the term “transport service” is used on the supplementary table, this means vehicles providing supply or medical, repair, maintenance, communal and similar services, vehicles transporting a severely disabled person, taxi service vehicles and vehicles whose drivers, operators or transported persons have residence, accommodation, seat or real estate in the places behind the sign.

The horizontal sign V 14, after adjustment, marks a lane or path for cyclists. In justified cases, the bicycle symbol may be supplemented with a reduced directional arrow or arrows.

The symbol number 211, denoting an electric car, also received a major modification. Now it is a familiar pictogram showing a motor vehicle, but in addition, an electrical outlet peeks out from this car.

In addition to these changes, only a textual amendment is being prepared in the law for signs such as a path for pedestrians, for cyclists, mixed, for riders on an animal, and the form of a stop sign that road users will use to control shuttle traffic could also be included in the legislation. So, if nothing major goes wrong, the news will start to apply as early as January 1, 2024. Currently, everything points to this.
