It’s been rumored for years, but now Nintendo has finally confirmed the project. A live-action film based on The Legend of Zelda is indeed in the works. He will direct it Wes Ballwhich has so far the last films in the Maze Runner series, the last of which was released in 2018. The film is produced by Shigeru Miyamoto from Nintendo together with Avi Aradewho has produced or co-produced a number of Marvel movies over the past decade-plus.
Film co-financed by Nintendo (of more than 50%) and the company Sony Pictures Entertainment, which will be the distributor in cinemas. Miyamoto further confirmed that they have already officially started production on the film, while Nintendo is heavily involved in the production. He also noted that it will take some time to complete, but that he hopes fans are looking forward to it.
Back in 2015, we heard rumors from the Wall Street Journal that Nintendo and Netflix were working on a live-action Zelda series, but that never happened. The success of The Super Mario Bros. But a movie was probably the last thing Nintendo needed to make this project a reality. And while there’s still plenty of time for anything to go wrong between now and the movie’s theatrical release, it’s still very good and hopeful news for Zelda fans.
