The Polestar 5 has been talked about for more than two years, and it will probably take another two years before we can buy it. But don’t worry, you definitely won’t regret it.
The development of the Polestar 5 is a long-distance race. The first hint of a high-performance sedan was the Precept concept, which was supposed to be shown at the 2020 Geneva Motor Show, but ended up having a separate premiere in late February due to the pandemic. Although a lot of time has passed since then, we won’t see it until 2025.

Even before that, the Polestar 3 and 4 SUVs will arrive next year. There is a good reason for the “delay”. The five will use a newly developed platform representing a revolution. Polestar built it “tailor-made”, although it will understandably maintain a high variability due to scalability. Development is taking place at the UK center in Horiba Mira.
Its advantage will be the 800V system enabling extremely fast charging. With it, the brand was helped by the manufacturer StoreDot, in which Polestar has a significant share, which used the XFC charging technique for mobile phones. These could be fully charged in 5 minutes. In the same time, the range of the car should increase by 160 km, without negative effects on the battery. The charging concept should be ready next year.

The second privilege of the platform will be stiffness and lightness at the level of super sports cars. The body of the Polestar 5 will be made of aluminum, which will be processed using different techniques for specific parts. The shapes are more moderate compared to the concept, without flamboyant curves, which is probably a tax for homologation regulations. Its final form was presented by the brand at the ‘Polestar Day’ event in Los Angeles.
Assumptions speak of 874 horsepower with 899 Nm of torque and all-wheel drive. The rear engine will have 604 horsepower. At the same time, the development of the five is closely connected with the progress on the Polestar 6 roadster scheduled for 2026.
