The jury selected the best utility vehicle with a body for this year. For the first time, it is a dual government.
The International Pick-Up Award (IPUA) has announced its winners at a gala banquet at the Solutrans 2023 show in Lyon, France. This year’s champions were selected by a jury of more than twenty members from many European countries, in which the Czech Republic also has its representative, Milan Olšanský.
The winner was the Ford Ranger and Volkswagen Amarok duo, as these cars share the same technology – this was the first time in the history of the expert poll that both models already had two wins each.
“Following the IPUA 2023 group tests held in Greece last month, the two models were indistinguishable as both the new Ranger and Amarok were developed together and are produced at the Ford plant in South Africa. Although this is a joint project, each manufacturer has managed to maintain their unique style and driving characteristics, which customers will attest to.” explained Jarlath Sweeney, chairman of the jury.
Hans Schep, CEO of Ford Pro Europe, said: “We are delighted that the Ford Ranger has been recognized by the IPUA jury for the third time, which is testament to its continued appeal as Europe’s most popular pick-up truck for the past eight years. The new Ford Ranger has the widest range of models to date, offering customers on-road refinement and off-road capability suitable for workdays and weekends. It’s built to be ready for work and play.”
Karl Bernqvist, member of the Board of Directors of the Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles brand responsible for procurement, was also satisfied, who stated: “The Amarok is a pick-up that delivers reliable performance both on and off the road. He impressed the jury in both cases. The International Pick-up Award for 2024/2025 means that the Amarok has achieved a triple feat in just 14 years of production. This vote of confidence is a tribute to the entire team at Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles. We would like to thank you for that!”
