The current version of the Sorento is roughly halfway through its life cycle. The South Korean automaker first showed the car in February 2020 and then presented it with technical details and details in March. The novelty of the time arrived on the Czech market in October of the same year. Those interested in the Czech Republic will be able to order the modernized version during the first quarter of next year.

At first glance, the rejuvenated Sorento catches the attention of the redesigned front sections, which received new headlights in a shape reminiscent of the letter T, a different radiator grille and a different bumper. The car already boasts the new Kia logo on the front hood.

At the back, we won’t find such significant changes, the main novelty is represented by modified lamps. Their shape is similar to those before the facelift, but the graphics have changed and both parts of the lights are now connected. The automaker is also sticking out new fender decors on the side of the car with a more prominent 3D design.

For the modernized Sorento, three new designs of alloy wheels are available in the size of 18, 19 and 20 inches, the color palette of the bodywork has been expanded by shades of Volcanic Sand gray, Interstellar gray (the same as the EV6) and Cityscape green (the same as the Niro model). The colors Clear White, Pearl White Snow, Pearl Black Aurora, Silk Silver, Gravity Blue, Steel Gray and Mineral Blue will continue to be available.

Of course, Kia also paid attention to the interior. The SUV, which is available with five, six or seven seats, received a redesigned dashboard with newly designed ventilation outlets – smaller and slimmer. The vacated space was occupied not only by a larger infotainment display, but above all by a touch panel for controlling the air conditioning, media and some other functions.

In addition, the manufacturer mentions some interesting details, such as ambient lighting with a choice of 64 shades, a redesigned rotary control for electronic gear shifting, front “relaxation seats”, an Ergo Motion driver’s seat with a built-in lumbar support based on the principle of air chambers and electrically adjustable side cushions or artificial leather upholstery and recycled PET material.

It can close the trunk by itself

On the dashboard we find two optically connected screens – a 12.3″ infotainment touchscreen with navigation and a 12.3″ driver’s instrument panel. There is also a 10″ head-up display or a digital interior rearview mirror that can serve as a classic auto-dimming mirror or as a rear camera display.

An unusual feature is fingerprint recognition, which allows the driver to link a user profile and start the engine, or to activate Valet Mode as an alternative to entering a PIN code. The Sorento is also equipped with wireless phone charging, six USB-C charging ports (two in each row of seats) and a Bose audio system. The car can also use a mobile phone as an alternative to a classic key. And the automatic closing of the trunk after the driver leaves the detection area behind the vehicle can be handy.

New for the Sorento is the highway driving assistant version 2.0 with lane change assistant and a 360° monitoring system with 3D imaging. Furthermore, the autonomous emergency braking system was modernized, which now also includes functions for turning at intersections and passing through intersections, a steering assistant for evasive maneuvers and functions to avoid collisions with oncoming and parallel vehicles when crossing from lane to lane.

Even after the modernization, the Sorento will be available in the Czech Republic with a four-cylinder turbodiesel 2.2 CRDi, as well as a hybrid 1.6 T-GDi HEV and a plug-in hybrid 1.6 T-GDi PHEV.

The plug-in hybrid uses a 1.6 T-GDI internal combustion engine and a 13.8kWh battery mated to a six-speed automatic transmission and is equipped with all-wheel drive as standard.

The hybrid also relies on the 1.6 T-GDI unit, but here it is complemented by a smaller battery with a capacity of 1.49 kWh. There is a six-speed automatic, but customers can choose between front- and all-wheel drive.

The 2.2-litre diesel engine, mated to an eight-speed dual-clutch gearbox, also offers a choice between front-wheel and all-wheel drive.
