Most people perceive the Lexus brand as the personification of premium comfort, soothing well-being and pampering with luxury. But Lexus also has another side, with roaring engines, acceleration pushing you into the seat and pupils dilating at speed – just think of the eight-cylinder monsters IS-F, GS-F or RC-F, or the wonderful gran turismo LC. And now some of their sporting spirit has been transformed into the large RX SUV.
The more dynamic look of the F Sport in the effective Sapphire Blue design with contrasting black lacquered elements will be confirmed by sitting in the anatomical seats that hug you tightly and won’t let go. The top design of the RX 500h is not only about sailing comfortably on the straights, but also about nimble driving in corners.
Like other Lexus cars, the most powerful RX 500h is powered by a hybrid drivetrain, but this time you have 371 horsepower at your command from an unusual (for Lexus) combination of electricity with a turbo engine and a variable-speed automatic transmission. When you press the gas pedal to the floor, you will not get the monotonous growl of the revved-up engine and lukewarm acceleration, but an experience much more similar to ordinary cars. The engine growls, the gearbox downshifts and the car shoots forward – actually reacting a bit quicker thanks to the instant pull of the two electric motors (one on each axle).
The technical data promises a hundred in 6.2 seconds and the RX 500h behind the wheel feels really nimble thanks to the combined power of the turbochargers and electricity, the acceleration is also accompanied by the typical rise and fall of revolutions after each shift of the quality of the six-speed automatic (instead of the typical vacuum cleaner effect of other hybrids), so the driving experience he is also very natural.
The RX 500h won’t knock your knees even before a corner, because the pleasantly rigid chassis provides a lot of security without unnecessary side tilts, smart stabilizers also prevent diving during sharp acceleration or hard brakes, so the car feels “flat” and completely confident.
Although still not like a district sander – it’s big and heavy enough for that. It turns bends obediently, but it lacks a certain agility, the engineers did not try to mask the natural heaviness of a large SUV. Even so, the RX 500h can please those who like to drive and drive more nimbly, because it feels more nimble and natural than other versions of the RX.
No matter which version you go for, you will definitely not be disappointed – the RX confirms its position as the flagship of Lexus and includes you with premium comfort, extensive luxury equipment and top-quality workmanship. In addition, in a package that does not box you into a clearly defined box, as with the German competition. And it’s great that this nice difference finally has something to offer even enthusiastic drivers.
The Lexus RX price list starts with the 350h version and the amount of CZK 1,790,000, you can buy the plug-in hybrid version of the 450h+ for already CZK 2,090,000, and the top 500h in the sporty and richly equipped F Sport variant costs CZK 2,530,000.
