So far we have known two complete crews – Fabian Lurquin will be Loeb’s partner, Pablo Moreno Huete will sit next to Cristina. Now Dacia announces the composition of the third crew… and once again a very famous name is part of it!
For Dacia, seasoned Qatari pilot Nasser Al-Attiyah will drive the Dakar. The 52-year-old driver will be part of the testing procedures next year and jump into the Dakar and the Rallyes-Raid World Championship in 2025. His partner will be Mathieu Baumel, with whom he experienced countless successes on the Dakar.
Al-Attiyah is a two-time WRC2 World Rally Champion and nineteen-time Middle East Rally Champion between 2003 and 2015. He finished second in the 2010 Dakar, losing just over two minutes to the winner Carlos Sainz. A year later, he already won the overall victory, which he repeated in 2015, 2019, 2022 and 2023.
Partner Mathieu was except for the first triumph in all others. At forty-seven years old, he is one of the most successful co-drivers. In addition to four victories at the Dakar, the Frenchman also has twelve world championship titles in various rally categories.
Doesn’t that all sound crazy enough? So watch out. Dacia does not want to be on the starting grid just in numbers, but sets itself the highest goal – to win the Dakar! Let us remind you that the construction of the competition special on synthetic fuels is being helped by the company Prodrive (which previously also prepared the Loeba racing car) and it will be shown in action for the first time at the Moroccan rally next year.
