Recuperation helps electric cars save on brakes and extend the range. At the same time, it significantly changes the behavior of the car in crisis situations.

The Volkswagen ID.3 underwent a technical facelift in the summer and the price fell below one million crowns for the first time. Today we will see how the electric hatchback copes with the well-known slalom and moose test. The latest version of the Pro with 150 kW and 58 kWh battery arrived in the km77 editorial office. It is fitted with Continental EcoContact 6 215/45 R20 tires.

Since the ID.3 belongs to the lighter electric cars, it weaves between the cones deftly, and the heavier battery can only be known by the inertia at the end when turning 180 degrees. At the same time, thanks to the turning diameter of 10.3 meters, it can tighten it nicely. The time of 24.2 seconds matches rivals in the form of the Renault Megane E-tech and the Mercedes C 300 e.

In the moose test, the weight of 1794 kg cannot be denied, and the passage at a speed of 77 km/h ends with an understeer maneuver and the impossibility of returning the ID.3 back to the lane in time. A helping hand in the fight against weight is given by the mode of increased recuperation “B” and reduction of the approach speed to 75 km/h. This reduced the speed in the middle part from 71 km/h to 63 km/h, the car became more controllable and flies through the track like nothing. With the “little one” engaged, the rear axle confidently follows the front without slipping to the side. With the lever in position B, due to the maximum recuperation, which slows it down, it tends to go into a slight slip, which needs to be taken into account. At the same time, it will help the hatchback steer back into the lane .
