An interesting veteran with blue blood goes to auction, Charles XVI Gustav sat behind the wheel.
After completing his primary education directly at the royal court and the Broms school, His Royal Highness the Duke of Jämtland Karl Gustav Folke Hubertus Bernadotte entered the Sigtuna Humanistska Läroverk boarding school. He completed this in 1966 and received a beautiful Volvo 1800S as a graduation present on his 20th birthday on April 30.
He replaced the car two years later with a newer type with a larger B20 engine. The original piece changed hands seven to eight times, by the way, after the king, it was also owned by a taxi driver. The current owner bought it about fifteen years ago from a lady who got it in her fifties in 1991. By the way, he has been pestering here for ten years with a request to sell.
The car took part in last year’s Royal Rally in Öland, which was attended by Carl XVI Gustaf, who met his old car and had his picture taken behind the wheel, while his wife, Queen Silvia of Sweden, waved from the passenger seat.
The car was taken care of by the Volvo Museum, who serviced it and ensured the necessary repairs – even so, the old 1800S has a really interesting patina. The vehicle with a mileage of 73,024 kilometers is currently in the Bilweb auction, the expected price is 1.5 million crowns. And if you were interested in the bouquet on the back plate – Queen Silvia herself left it in the car at the Royal Rally.
