The police arrested the driver anyway and now he faces up to three years in prison. According to Dziennik, the 23-year-old driver was driving his car “completely drunk” rather than just “under the influence” – at least until he fell asleep and drove the car off the road into a field. “He had such a strong concentration of alcohol in his system that the scale was not enough for the tester. The driver had more than four per thousand of alcohol in him,” the newspaper wrote.

The driver explained to the police that he celebrated the arrival of the new year by drinking spirits until two in the morning, but since then he has not even touched alcohol. But he was still so tired that he fell asleep behind the wheel.

He now faces up to three years in prison, a restraining order and a large fine, Dziennik added.
