The World Rally Championship debuted on Czech soil last fall. The premiere was not without controversy, when one of the scheduled stages even had to be canceled due to unruly foreign fans. This year, supporters and strengthened organizational units have a chance to make amends. The WRC will return to the Czech Republic!

Fans of rallying do not have to wait as long for the start of the new season as for example fans of Formula 1. The season starts already on the last weekend of January with the traditional event in Monte Carlo, then the competition will continue in Sweden, Kenya and Croatia. For the first time ever, the championship calendar will visit Latvia, where it will be played on gravel. The same surface awaits riders in Poland, which is returning to the series after a seven-year hiatus. Both competitions take place right after each other during the summer.

WRC in the Czech Republic 2024: date, program

It will happen on time October 31 to November 3when it is scheduled in the calendar Central European Rally. This year, it started in the Czech Republic to continue on the territory of Germany and Austria. A similar schedule is expected this year as well. The Central European Rally is the penultimate event of the season, which culminates three weeks later in Japan. It is therefore quite possible that it is during the special stages in the Czech Republic that the championship titles in individual categories will be decided.

WRC 2024 drivers and teams

Significant changes are not expected within the teams. The main WRC competition category will once again belong to three car companies – Ford, Toyota and Hyundai. The biggest news in the starting field is certainly the reduction of the activities of the reigning world champion. The 23-year-old Finnish champion Kalle Rovanperä intends to present himself only at selected events in order to gain strength for his next racing career. Sébastien Ogier will not take part in all events this year either, a question mark also hangs over the start of Sébastien Loeb, who is now concentrating all his attention on the Dakar preparations with Dacia.

All this could – or rather should – play into the hands of Hyundai, in which world champion Ott Tänak is returning after an interlude at Ford. The duo of Hyundai Tänak and Thierry Neuville, the eternal second in the world championship, will undoubtedly be among the biggest favorites this season. In fact, you could say that anything short of a championship (in drivers and among teams) will be a failure for Hyundai.
