This year’s 46th edition of the Dakar Rally brought several twists and turns, dramatic moments as well as the two-day “most demanding stage of all time”. None of this stopped Martin Macík on his way to overall victory in the truck category. On the contrary, it was in the extreme 48-hour stage that he built up a key gap. He reached the finish line with a lead of less than two hours on the second Aleš Loprais (winner of the final stage), which is another great result for the Czech Republic. After all, the Dakar remembers two Czechs in the first two places only once in 1988!
Experienced matador Carlos Sainz took the victory in the car category. However, Czech records were also rewritten here – Martin Prokop achieved a historic success in the form of fifth place, thus improving his lifetime best.
In the motorcycle category, American Ricky Brabec won, the most successful Czech representative was Martin Michek. He finished that race in tenth place, equaling his three-year-old best.
