Porsche will now sell two models for a while. Technically older with a combustion engine and newer with electric. The new one has amazing technical parameters.

After a really long wait and waiting, Porsche is finally presenting the new Macan with a purely electric drive. The car is based on the PPE (Premium Electric Platform) platform with 800V architecture. That’s the first big difference from the brand’s first electric car, the Taycan, which sits on a derivative of the MSB platform codenamed J1 and shares it with the Audi e-tron GT. The next Volkswagen Group car on the PPE platform will be the Audi A6 e-tron.

Inside the platform is a 100 kW battery, of which 95 kWh are usable. Charging is possible with a power of up to 270 kW, which should mean getting energy from 10 to 80 percent in 21 minutes. In the case of a charging station capable of only 400V, the battery is divided into two 400-volt segments for optimal charging with a power of 135 kW. The Macan is able to efficiently not only acquire energy, but also distribute it, using recuperation with an output of up to 240 kW.

For now, we have two versions – Macan 4 and Macan Turbo. Both have an electric motor on each axle, so they are four-wheelers. The Macan 4 has an output of 300 kW (408 hp), a maximum torque of 650 Nm, accelerates to 100 km/h in 5.1 seconds, travels 220 km/h and can travel 613 km according to the WLTP on one charge. The Macan Turbo is of course wilder – 470 kW (639 hp), 1130 Nm, acceleration of 3.3 seconds and a speed of 260 km/h. Only the range is lower, namely 591 km.

ePTM (Porsche Traction Management) is responsible for the control logic of the all-wheel drive, and the system reacts to any slippage within 10 milliseconds, which should not even be noticeable to the driver. The distribution of the power ratio between the axles varies according to the selected driving mode. The Turbo version also mentions torque vectoring and an electronically controlled differential on the rear axle.

The Macan 4 has a steel suspension as a base, where there is also a system of electronically controlled PASM shock absorbers, here with two-valve technology for a more noticeable difference between sports and comfort damping. The Macan Turbo has air suspension as standard, also with PASM. Air suspension is optional for the Macan 4. For the first time ever, the car has the option of steering the rear axle.

Compared to the combustion version, the electric one is slightly larger. The dimensions are 4784 mm in length, 1938 mm in width and 1622 mm in height. The wheelbase is longer by 86 mm to the resulting 2893 mm. New 22-inch wheels are available, the combustion Macan can have a maximum of twenty-one. The design language of the car is similar to that of the Taycan. The interior is traditional and almost identical to other models of the brand.

The Macan also has some new elements of active aerodynamics such as an active rear wing or active air intake flaps. Under the hood, you have room for cables with a volume of 84 liters. The trunk has 540 liters and up to 1348 liters if the rear bench is folded down. The towing capacity is up to 2000 kg, the weight of the car is not mentioned in the press release. The price is set at 2,225,750 CZK for the Macan 4 and 3,059,092 CZK for the Turbo. The cars will be delivered to customers in the second half of this year.

With its capabilities and performances, the electric Macan almost excludes comparison with the basic combustion version with four cylinders. The comparison with the S, which has a six-cylinder engine with a power of 380 hp and costs 2,100,288 CZK, is more fitting. The standard Macan will continue to be sold. In this way, Porsche can watch live how one model with two types of drive at a similar price will perform and answer the question of how those customers will actually behave. And let’s take into account that technically the cars are quite different to the detriment of the combustion version. However, the Macan is already a ten-year-old car with foundations in the old Q5.
