The truck overtaking ban applies every day from 5:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. The first prohibition signs were installed by the Directorate of Roads and Highways (ŘSD) on the D1 highway last November 11. This spring, they should increase in other sections, said Jan Rýdl, spokesman for the ŘSD, to ČTK.

“Truck drivers driving on the D1 are starting to understand the meaning of the traffic sign. In addition, if they pay CZK 5,500 for violating the overtaking ban, they will receive six penalty points,” the police said. Police spokeswoman Dana Čírtková told ČTK that before the amendment to the Act on Traffic on Roads, valid since the beginning of this year, it was not possible to solve a violation on the spot.

The ban on overtaking trucks has been in effect since November in the section between the 90th and 112th kilometers, i.e. between Humpolec and Jihlava. Trucks cannot overtake even from Velké Meziříčí at the 146th kilometer to Brno. “We want to install the rest – that means from Mirošovice (in the Benešovsk region) to Velké Meziříčí so that we have a complete set – sometime at the beginning of spring,” Rýdl said.

The ban on overtaking trucks is intended to prevent complications in the flow of traffic. Especially in worse weather conditions, drivers blocked the left lane. According to an earlier statement by the police, the greatest difficulties were caused in the section between Jihlava and Humpolec.
