We already know the form of the improved civilian version and the sporty GTI, the sharpest model has hidden its secrets under foil.

At the traditional Ice Race event in Zell am See, Austria, Volkswagen brought a small taste of the top Golf R, which will follow other versions of the eighth generation with a number of minor improvements.

The new Volkswagen Golf has lost its unfairly derided engine. It lasts longer than the driver without refueling

There wasn’t much to see under the camouflage, but we noticed that the car received a new type of alloy wheels – we can expect that VW will add a selection of new paints to them. In terms of design, we don’t expect any wildness, just like other versions will certainly receive a modified front bumper, modified LED Matrix lights and an illuminated logo of the manufacturer on the front.

Inside, the biggest novelty will be the redesigned control of various elements, just like the classic Golf, we can look forward to a steering wheel with classic buttons instead of capacitive surfaces, an illuminated and more responsive strip for adjusting the air conditioning and volume, plus a new version of the MIB4 infotainment system.

The new VW Golf R Variant is still divinely versatile and fun to drive. Even on the track!

In terms of the drive, we can only speculate for now, the current 235 kW is still not enough, but there will certainly be some shift, especially for the top variant. Our tip is to use a refined version of the four-cylinder EA888 from the special editions 20 Years and 333. This one, for example, leaves the throttle slightly open and has a modified turbo bypass valve, the output is 245 kW.
