With the end of January, we can already start thinking about plans for the motoring season, in which the BMW 4 Series should not be missing.
For the last two generations, BMW has allocated the coupé and cabriolet a separate 4 Series, thereby strengthening their character. In the case of the coupe, it stands out for its sporty nature, while the cabriolet is mainly about driving with the open sky overhead and the dynamics are such a cherry on the cake.
This year’s modernization is carried out in a moderate spirit. The graphics of the front LED lights are changing, with low beam and high beam modes combined into one module. Alternatives are additional Matrix lights with shielding of oncoming cars and an adaptive set with Laserlight rear lights known from the M4 CSL. A new wheel design has been added, emphasizing the refreshed body color palette. The optional M Sport Package adds a gloss black front bumper diffuser and larger 100mm tailpipes. An alternative is a package of exterior parts made of carbon.
In the interior, too, attention was paid to the aesthetic impression, which is the main thing, especially in the case of a convertible. In the evening, pleasant mood lighting with adjustable intensity and a choice of nine colors floods the interior. The air conditioning vents are also newly decorated. It can even do animations when getting in and out of the car and when receiving a call. The attention to detail is enhanced by the new decors and design of the seats and steering wheel.
The basic two-spoke steering wheel can be exchanged for a three-spoke M package with backlit buttons and shift paddles. The seats are normally upholstered in synthetic perforated leather, but you can also have genuine leather in black and red, or three other shades as part of the Individual program. For the first time, the M package brings a velor design, characterized by lightness and ecological production.
Under the hood you will find four- and six-cylinder engines equipped with a mild-hybrid system. The starter-generator provides 11 horsepower. The energy obtained during recuperation not only helps the dynamic operation of the system, but also powers on-board systems. You can have the coupé in three petrol and four diesel versions with rear and all-wheel drive and power from 140 to 374 hp. The only thing missing from the cabriolet is the base diesel with all-wheel drive. The second key to the extraordinary pleasure behind the wheel is the redesigned chassis with variable stiffness, but you can also have the adaptive M set complete with variable steering and sports brakes.
Among the assistance systems, it is worth mentioning the active anti-collision system, the speed limit and overtaking prohibition indicator and the lane keeping system. When parking, front and rear sensors complete with a camera come in handy. If necessary, the car will drive itself to the selected location. That’s all basically. You can pay extra for a panoramic camera system and a package of elements for autonomous driving in the transverse and longitudinal directions.
The top versions of the M440 are characterized by an M sport exterior design with the option of carbon-look rear-view mirrors, diffuser and air intake. The interior is dominated by aluminum trim along with leather seats and an M package including side skirts, pedals with left foot rest and specific curved display graphics. The gasoline version of the M440i will offer 374 horsepower with 500 Nm of torque. The diesel is tuned to 340 hp with 700 Nm
