An expert jury composed of motoring journalists chose the new Car of the Year in the Czech Republic. The Mercedes-Benz E-Class scored the most points.

The Car of the Year survey in the Czech Republic is celebrating 30 years, and recently the field of winners has been quite diverse. Škoda last dominated the poll between 2015 and 2018, but the streak of victories was interrupted by the Ford Focus in 2019, and in subsequent years the domestic automaker failed to follow up on its successes. And this year, for example, the Škoda car was completely absent, because none of the currently offered models meet the poll’s criteria.

BMW 5 Series, Hyundai Ioniq 6, Kia EV9, Mercedes-Benz E-Class and Subaru Crosstrek advanced to the finals of this year’s Car of the Year poll in the Czech Republic (in alphabetical order). The winner was decided by a jury made up of domestic motoring journalists.

In the second round of voting, each of the judges had to distribute 25 points between the finalists, so that the best rated car could be awarded a maximum of 10 points and the cars in the first two places could not be awarded the same number of points. In case of equality of points, the higher number of first places, or the higher number of votes in the first round, decided. At the same time, each of the judges had to attach a short verbal evaluation.

The announcement of the Car of the Year 2024 in the Czech Republic took place today in the afternoon as part of the annual press conference of the Association of Automobile Importers. The Mercedes-Benz E-Class (132) received the most points from the jury, followed by the BMW 5 Series (118 points), and the top three is completed by the Subaru Crosstrek (90 points). The last time a Mercedes-Benz car won the survey was in 2011, when the SLS AMG model received the most points.

I, Honza Miček, represented the editorial board in the Car of the Year jury. And the choice was not easy. Choose an ultra-modern Korean electric car that is equal to the level of materials, processing and on-board systems of premium automakers? And which car from the pair of BMW 5 and Mercedes-Benz E should you choose? And what about Subaru, which relies on the e-Boxer engine, moreover, with an output of “only” 100 kW? I solved it simply: I chose the car that I enjoyed driving the most – the Subaru Crosstrek.

The new Subaru Crosstrek has arrived in the Czech Republic. We took a ride. And whoever doesn't like something, let him ride too

It was the Subaru Crosstrek that left the biggest impression on me thanks to its great chassis and hybrid drivetrain with modest power but the best tuning I’ve experienced in a Subaru so far. It’s an uncomfortable car and one of the last “normal” Subarus on the market. There was no clear winner for me from BMW and Mercedes, although they are great cars for long distances, and as far as electric cars are concerned, they are great, but in my eyes they represent a technically interesting alternative for lovers of something new rather than my Car of the Year.
