The dice have been cast, the points have been awarded, and in Stuttgart, specifically in the headquarters of the Mercedes-Benz car company, they can celebrate. Undoubtedly, far more will be celebrated in Prague in Daimlerova Street, where the Czech representative office of this German manufacturer is located.

Mercedes has reason to celebrate, it defeated BMW and takes home the title of Auto toku 2024 in the Czech Republic.

The Mercedes-Benz E-class model won the prestigious Car of the Year 2024 poll in the Czech Republic, and the importer may also use this title for public promotion of this model. Although the direct competition from Munich in the form of the BMW 5 series was very strong, the expert jury ultimately awarded the title to Mercedes with a noticeable lead.

Therefore, the king of the survey received a total of 132 points out of a total of 500, while the second Bavarian in series 5 leaves with 118 points. The third place went to a car for adventurous drivers, which scored exactly 90 points. At Subaru, they will certainly be happy with the bronze and will proudly hang it on the hood of the new Crosstrek.

Order and model Number of points
1. Mercedes-Benz E-Class 132 points
2. BMW 5 series 118 points
3. Subaru Crosstrek 90 points
4. Be EV9 82 points
5. Hyundai Ioniq 6 78 points

The potato medal goes to South Korea, i.e. to the Czech representative of the car brand Kia, which took fourth place thanks to the EV9 model and its 82 points. The final five is rounded off by the Hyundai Ioniq 6 with a report card of 78 points.

Readers of Garáž.cz chose the Ford Bronco as the car of the year 2024 in the Czech Republic.

For readers of Garáž.cz, the Ford Bronco won outright, the Toyota Prius Plug-in Hybrid was second, and the Mercedes-Benz E-Class was third, closely followed by the Honda CR-V and Crosstrek from Subaru.

Comment on the results

And since we participated in the survey as judges, we also bring you a brief evaluation comment. Already after the first round of the poll, it was quite likely that this year will be a battle between the German premium brands Mercedes-Benz and Bayerische Motoren Werke.

The second place was occupied by the BMW 5 series, Mercedes missed it by 14 points.

Both models were very strong, however, in our opinion, the Mercedes won in the end due to its variety of drives, slightly higher technological level and better design. BMW still lacks more six-cylinder engines, so the results could have been influenced by the delivered configuration of the tested cars, showing a certain split in the specifications, which we they paid more attention in the editorial test.

The third Subaru is a representative of evolutionary development and the fact that there is no need to change proven and desirable concepts. So there remained button control, a capable four-wheel drive and a high level of safety. On the other hand, a certain laziness of the drivetrain and the absence of the basic 1.6i engine, which meant a high basic price, could have hurt the model.

The battle of the South Koreans on the tail then ended victoriously for Kia, which showed that it is capable of offering a successful electric car of giant dimensions with hi-tech equipment at a reasonable price and consumption for its segment.

The Kia EV9 was ultimately more successful among South Korean electric cars. Maybe also because it is simply more new.

The Hyundai Ioniq 6 may have come to the conclusion that it had already won somewhere, it was everywhere, it was written and talked about a lot, but it didn’t really look as fresh as other models.

So congratulations to all the finalists, but the laurel wreath belongs to the Mercedes E-Class, and rightfully so. Tomorrow we will look at the winning model in more detail in the test, so you will learn more. The car of the year 2024 in the Czech Republic is behind us, however, we are already slowly looking ahead to the next year and guessing potential final participants, maybe even those who have China on their birth certificate…
